Sharing Global Best Practice On How To Identify Risks & Then Mitigate Them

The impact of the Deepwater Horizon gulf oil disaster is a stark reminder of the need to challenge traditional assumptions on deep sea drilling risk management. Whilst managing the details of every phase of a deep-water project has always been recognized, it is how a company deals with non text book incidents that can be the difference between success and failure, or, as in this case, catastrophe.

American Business Conferences is proud to spearhead a global initiative dedicated to sharing best practice on deep water-risk assessment and management. The agenda is designed to offer a thorough review of basic deep water drilling operating and equipment practices, defining current standards and reviewing potential risk assessment gaps.

Benchmark Against A Quantified List Of Risk Actions & How To Manage Them

A key contribution of the conference is about initiating best practice standards and reviewing successes and failures. The event delivers “big picture” strategic thinking on drilling and well control coupled with a thorough review of operational process, equipment and human factors. You will meet global regulators, operators and oilfield service providers to learn how the industry can realistically move forward in managing risk in the well, from the design and planning right through to the execution and well construction. And from the regulators, you will gain clarity on likely legislative changes, region by region. Representatives from deepwater drilling environment from all of the key deepwater regions will be present: including Brazil, Australia, Indonesia, Angola, Ghana, Nigeria, Norway, the UK as well as the Gulf of Mexico.

Gain Advantage From Detailed Solution Orientated Sessions Reviewing:

  • Human Factor Risk: In an in-depth panel session, VPs of Operations and Drilling, Well Operations Managers and Drilling Managers from the Gulf of Mexico and further afield, will discuss the human factor in risk assessment.  Companies may have all the procedures necessary but it is the human interface translating those procedures into reality that now needs to be bullet-proofed.
  • Re-Evaluating The Back-Up System, BOP & Control Systems

The BOP back-up system is an area of intense scrutiny. Operators are asking - do capacities need to be re-evaluated? What are the standards for testing? What are the standards for control systems in different regions? How can the industry ensure that the failsafe system never fails?

To shed light on these issues, BOP experts from oil companies will discuss the diverse regional standards on the exact requirements for back-up systems currently used by deepwater companies in the North Sea, the Gulf of Mexico and West Africa. Engineers and equipment manufacturers will critically assess the safety case for increasing or upgrading the capacity or number of shear rams, as well as the need for acoustic and automatic control systems on the BOP.
  • Well Control Procedures including the casing design and cementing
  • Subsea Equipment Safety including the BOP, Control Systems and ROVs
  • Operational Procedural Integrity including testing and inspection, risk assessment protocol and competency training of personnel, will ensure that operators leave with practical solutions for implemeting higher standards of risk management in deepwater activities
